Retakes & Fillers

Remove fillers and retakes automatically

A hybrid AI + rules engine that knows the difference between a real sentence and a restarted take. Cut ums, uhs, "let me try that again," and tangents — without losing the takes you wanted to keep.

Two passes, one answer

Pure-AI editors hallucinate cuts. Pure-rules editors miss intent. EditBuddy runs both in parallel and only commits cuts where the evidence agrees.

Deterministic first pass

Finds meta-speech, prefix chains ("I think… I think we should…"), and similarity clusters. Runs in milliseconds with zero AI calls.

AI clean-script pass

The model reconstructs the cleanest readable version of your script. EditBuddy inverts that to find what to cut.

Agreement boosting

Cuts both passes agree on get confidence 0.95. Either-only cuts get a lower confidence so you can review them.

Take groups

Multiple attempts at the same line are grouped using prefix coverage, embedding similarity, and audio fingerprinting.

Three keep strategies

Keep Last, Keep Longest, or Keep Best (multi-signal quality + recency). Pick the one that matches your edit style.

Backup sequence

Original sequence is duplicated as "— Backup" before any destructive edit. One-click revert.

How it works

1

Transcribe

Whisper transcribes your audio with word-level timestamps and confidence scores.

2

Detect & group

System pass + AI pass run in parallel. Take groups are built from utterance similarity.

3

Pick keepers

Your strategy decides which take inside each group survives. Everything else is queued for cutting.

4

Commit cuts

Cuts land on your timeline. The pipeline continues with zoom, captions, B-roll if you've enabled them.

Stop scrubbing for the right take

EditBuddy finds them for you. Free — one Auto Edit on a 3-min clip — no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

How does EditBuddy detect retakes?

A hybrid pipeline. A deterministic pass finds meta-speech ("let me try that again"), prefix-chain restarts, and similarity clusters in milliseconds. An AI pass reconstructs the cleanest version of the script. Results are merged with agreement boosting — overlaps both passes confirm survive at confidence 0.95.

Will it cut a take I wanted to keep?

You choose the keep strategy: Last (final attempt), Longest (most complete), or Best (multi-signal quality score with a recency bonus). And EditBuddy backs up your sequence first.

What filler words are removed?

Common fillers like um, uh, like, you know, sort of, kind of — configurable. The AI pass keeps legitimate uses inside a sentence so you don't lose meaning.

Does it work with multi-clip timelines?

Yes. Each cut is mapped back to the correct source media and the sequence is rebuilt frame-accurately.

Do I need my own AI API key?

No. AI is included in your plan. The deterministic pass runs without AI as a fallback if the AI call ever fails.

Can I review cuts before they commit?

Yes — the backup sequence and Premiere's undo stack are your safety net. We're also working on a preview-and-confirm mode for the next release.
