Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 2026 · Last Updated: April 20, 2026

EditBuddy ("we," "us," "our," or "Company") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, extension, and services.

How your project files are handled

Your original project files — video clips, audio files, Premiere Pro projects, and anything you import — stay on your machine. EditBuddy does not upload your media library or full project files to our servers.

Some AI-assisted features (for example, transcription, AI analysis, visual understanding) need to generate a result using a cloud provider. When you run those features, the extension sends only the minimum extracted data required for that feature — for example, compressed audio, transcript text, vocabulary hints, or low-resolution frames from clips. These requests are sent over encrypted connections to secure cloud providers, processed to produce the result, and are not used to train third-party models.

Basic editing utilities and certain fallback workflows can run entirely locally in System mode where supported, with no cloud calls.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in via Google OAuth, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Full name
  • Profile picture (optional)
  • Google account ID

Usage Data

We automatically collect:

  • Video durations (to track free tier usage)
  • Feature usage (which tools you use: Auto Edit, Podcast, Shorts, etc.)
  • Performance metrics (processing time, errors)
  • Device info (OS, Premiere Pro version)

Cloud Processing Data

Some EditBuddy features use cloud-based AI and transcription providers. When you run those features, the extension may send only the processing data needed to complete the job, such as extracted audio, transcript text, vocabulary hints, or low-resolution frames taken from clips.

This cloud processing is used for features like hosted transcription, AI analysis, and visual understanding. Basic editing utilities and certain fallback workflows can still run locally in System mode where supported.

License & Device Verification Data

To validate licenses, prevent abuse, and keep account/device limits fair, EditBuddy stores a hashed device fingerprint generated from device and environment signals. We use this for account security and license verification, not for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Local Extension Data

EditBuddy may store local working data on your machine to make editing faster and more reliable. This can include transcript caches, caption state, downloaded stock assets, and similar temporary or project-related working files.

Payment Information

Payments are processed by Paddle. We do NOT store credit card details — Paddle handles all payment processing securely. We receive transaction IDs and subscription status only.

Telemetry

We collect anonymized usage events to improve the product. Events include feature usage, error logs, and performance data. No personal video content is collected.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Service Delivery — to authenticate you, track free tier limits, and provide features
  • Billing — to manage subscriptions and send receipts
  • Support — to respond to your feedback and bug reports
  • Product Improvement — to analyze usage patterns and improve features
  • License Protection - to validate device-linked licenses and prevent unauthorized sharing or abuse
  • Legal Compliance — to comply with applicable laws and regulations

3. Data Sharing

We do NOT sell your data. We only share information with:

  • Supabase (authentication & database hosting)
  • Paddle (payment processing)
  • Vercel (website hosting)
  • Google Cloud (OAuth authentication)
  • OpenAI (AI analysis and certain visual/language processing features)
  • Deepgram (hosted speech-to-text transcription)

All third parties are bound by confidentiality agreements and only access data necessary to provide their services.

4. Data Retention

  • Account data — retained while your account is active; deleted 30 days after account deletion
  • Usage logs — retained for 12 months for analytics; older logs are deleted
  • Payment records — retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance
  • Local extension caches - stored on your machine until cleared, replaced, or deleted by normal application use or manual removal

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request deletion of your account and data (except legally required retention)
  • Opt out of non-essential analytics
  • Export your data in a portable format

To exercise these rights, email privacy@editbuddy.app.

6. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and secure authentication (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE). Your passwords are never stored - Google handles authentication. Cloud processing requests are sent over secure connections, and your original project files remain on your machine unless a feature requires cloud processing to generate a result. However, no system is 100% secure. If you suspect a breach, contact us immediately.

7. Children's Privacy

EditBuddy is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we discover we have, we will delete it immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. We will notify you of material changes via email or prominent notice on the website. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

9. Contact Us

If you have privacy questions or concerns, contact us at privacy@editbuddy.app.
