1. The Resolve question settles it for a lot of people
AutoCut supports Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve on every tier, including Resolve's free version. FireCut supports Resolve too, but bundles both plugins at the Team tier ($34/mo per user) rather than the individual plans.
If you cut in both applications — or you are drifting toward Resolve and do not want to re-buy your automation stack — AutoCut is straightforwardly the cheaper answer. If you are Premiere-only and expect to stay there, this difference costs you nothing and you should ignore it.
2. Entry pricing favours FireCut, main-tier pricing is a wash
On an annual plan, FireCut Starter is $5/mo against AutoCut Basic at roughly $6.60/mo equivalent. That is a real gap in percentage terms and an irrelevant one in absolute terms — you are arguing over the price of a coffee per month.
What matters more is what the entry tier contains. FireCut Starter is deliberately narrow: one-click and advanced silence cutting, J-cuts, and Discord access. Captions, filler-word removal, chapters, zoom and B-roll all sit behind Pro. So if your honest need is "cut the silences and nothing else", FireCut Starter is the cheapest credible option in the whole category. 3. Where each one is genuinely better
FireCut's chapter detection. Both tools generate YouTube chapters. FireCut's is the more refined implementation and has been in the product longer. If you publish long-form YouTube and chapters are part of your routine, this is a small but real edge.
AutoCut's breadth. Ten named tools including a profanity filter (bleep, mute or remove) and AutoResize for social reframing. The profanity filter in particular has no direct equivalent in FireCut and matters if you edit for brand-safe or family channels.

4. The Storyblocks tax nobody mentions
Both tools advertise B-roll. Both source it from Storyblocks, and a Storyblocks subscription is not included in either price. So the real monthly cost of "AI B-roll" with either tool is the plugin plus a stock subscription, which is typically the larger of the two numbers.
This is the single most common surprise for people switching into either product, and it is worth pricing out before you commit. 5. What neither of them does
Both handle repeated takes — FireCut calls it repetition removal, AutoCut calls it AutoCut Repeat. Both work off transcript matching, which catches a speaker repeating a line close to verbatim.
Where transcript matching struggles is the paraphrased restart: you fluff a sentence, pause, and say the same idea in different words. There is no repeated string to match on, so a purely textual comparison misses it.
